Dude that Caught Derek Jeter’s Baseball, Will Owe IRS For Good Deed

The dude that caught Derek Jeter’s historical ball may end up having to pay a shit load of money for the gifts that he received from the Yankee’s team. Christian Lopez retrieved the ball (of Jeter’s 3,000th hit) and decided to return it to the team, instead of keeping it. For this nice gesture, he was gifted luxury box tickets for the rest of the season (including postseason), signed baseballs, bats and jerseys from Jeter and four premium front-row seats to last Sunday’s Yankees-Rays game. Sounds like baseball heaven until you have to pay taxes on all of it. Rumor has it that Lopez may ended up paying the IRS somewhere between $5,000 to $13,000 in taxes. Ouch. Source
