Russell Simmons & Dr. Benjamin Davis Pissed @ TI’s Return to Prison

Russell Simmons and Dr. Benjamin Davis have been very vocal about how T.I. returning back to prison because of the mode of transportation that was used. Simmons tweeted:

Dr. Benjamin Davis, wrote a post on Global Grind’s blog, expressing his displeasure. Here’s an excerpt:
The recent breaking news that Grammy award-winning artist T.I., Clifford Harris, was rearrested and imprisoned again solely because U.S. prison authorities were upset that T.I. was transported inside a “shining luxury” tour bus from a federal prison in Arkansas after being released from the prison to travel to Atlanta to report as scheduled to a halfway house is beyond bizarre…..Since when is it a federal crime to travel inside a tour bus? But we all know the issue was probably not really the tour bus, whether it was a luxury bus or a pitiful dilapidated ugly minivan. The issue is disrespect verses respect. They are trying to break T.I.’s spirit. But that will not happen.

Real rap, every commenter from Russel Simmons to Tiny are kicking #excuses. Let’s be real. I keep hearing people say that this is racism or the “man” trying to break T.I’s spirit and other statements of that ilk. Tiny even said that since the guards walked him to the bus they implied consent with him taking the bus. If a man is standing on the corner and chooses to sell crack in front of the cops they don’t have to give him a warning but guess what as soon as he makes the transaction they will haul him to jail. Why should T.I be treated differently? Because he is rich? Black? From the hood? Really, dude?
There has been NOTHING said about it being T.I’s responsibility to make sure that he was in compliance with the law. Lack of knowledge does not absolve one from an obligation to be follow laws/rules/policies. I don’t know what specific law/policy etc. he broke, but bet if I was IN JAIL I would make sure that I was in compliance with EVERYTHING. He has millions of dollars and a well-paid lawyer. States have different rules/laws. There are so many websites documenting the silly laws that U.S. states have, especially in the south. Martha Stewart left in a plane, well clearly Connecticut didn’t care how she left. T.I should have made sure that Arkansas law supported his desire to leave on a tour bus.
They told him that he was supposed to be transported lowkey, in a van. He showed up in a luxury tour bus and with an entourage. He didn’t follow SIMPLE instructors. Its his own fault.
