Idris Elba Does Not Want To Be “The Black James Bond”

Rumor has it that Idris Elba will be starring as James Bond in the new version of the movie, which is supposed to come out in November. But calm down ladies, Idris has confirmed that the rumor is not true. In an interview with NPR, Idris said that it was not only an old rumor but that he wouldn’t want the role anyway, if he was going to be called “The Black James Bond.” Peep his quote.

“It’s a rumor. It’s a very old rumor. My dad and I were talking about this the other day. I would do it, but I don’t want to be called the first black James Bond. Do you understand what I ‘m saying? Sean Connery wasn’t the Scottish James Bond and Daniel Craig wasn’t the blue-eyed James Bond. So if I played him, I don’t want to be called the black James Bond.”

Idris stressed that he did not come from England to America, just to play “Black” roles. But as long as he’s not type-casted, Elba would definitely think about playing the part. He said,

“If Sony decided to call me and said ‘hey, we wanted to do [James Bond],’ I’d definitely consider it.”

Despite his desire to not be casted in roles based on race, Elba would like to play the role of Nelson Mandela in an upcoming movie. Well, no matter which roles he decides to deny or accept, I’m sure anything will do for most of us. Just seeing him move is good enough :)
