Joe Budden & Kaylin Garcia Talk Getting Naked, Being Transparent + Reality TV
I’ve been familiar with 32-year-old rapper Joe Budden for quite some time and while he’s quite entertaining and vocal (from his days with Ester Baxter and Tahiry Jones), I’ve always wanted to interview the ‘new girl’. You know, the new haute girl that folk started talking about six months ago, who allows her man to post scantily clad and d*mn near nude photos of herself on social media. Welp, she happens to have a name (Kaylin Garcia) and is in love with Joe Budden (and the feeling is mutual). I got a chance to briefly speak to the new reality TV couple asking them about what motivated them to hop on VH1’s ‘Love & Hip Hop’, what makes their relationship tick, why she posts nude photos on twitter and some other interesting ‘stuff’. Peep our conversation below.
What made you two decide to come on the show?
Well I didn’t want to be on the show initially.
Why not?
I didn’t know what kind of scenario they were going to put me in. I didn’t want to be in the snake pit. I’m not a drama person so that was my reasoning of why I didn’t want to be on the show ,but eventually came on the show to support Joe ’cause we’re a couple. We’re partners and we do things together.
[To Joe Budden] What made you want to be on the show?
They asked me.
You didn’t have any apprehension about it? You weren’t nervous?
I’m Joe. Any way you put me on the earth and nothing is going to change. Whether the camera is there or it’s not there.
What did you all think of the 1st episode?
Loved it. I wanna watch it again.
Are you guys gonna argue later about what went on?
No!
You guys seems really transparent. Everyone follows you on twitter, what is that about?
People have a lot to hide. I try to be transparent in everything. Honesty is real, real important. I feel like communication is really, really important. We just happen to click in a lot of ways. I’m that way. I’m an expressionist, I’m very free.
You were like that before hand?
What with taking pictures?
Yeah taking pictures, being openly nude.
That’s what people don’t know, if I didn’t take them, she would take them.
I’m a free spirit, I like to be naked, I’m comfortable in my skin. If I could not wear clothes for the rest of my life, I wouldn’t.
So it’s not like Joe put you on to this?
No, I’m from Miami, I love the hot weather.
What was your background before you started the show? Were you a model?
No, I’m just a regular Zumba instructor.
How have you taken the heat and the constructive criticism about being in a relationship with somebody well known?
I just don’t give a f*ck about what anyone says.
I just don’t give a fuck. If she did, I might have to.
What makes your relationship work?
Communication is one.
Trust is another , Love is another.
Respect.
How long have you been dating?
7 months.
What’s been the most challenging about the relationship?
Because she’s from Miami, she still wants to come to New York and be a tourist. Like she’ll wake up and be like, ” Babe, let’s go to Times Square and walk around!” and I’m like “No! That’s not happening.”
We don’t really have a lot of problems. The challenge for me was moving here and the weather change, its so cold. Adapting to this culture, it’s a different type of world in New York and Jersey. I’m not used to that, I’m from Miami where it’s just like party party party.
What do you love most about him?
His brain.
What can’t you stand?
He thinks he’s right all the time, he thinks he knows it all.
The same thing you love about somebody is the same thing you hate.
Has he ever made you cry?
If I cry, it’s because of me.
Is that the image the show is giving me? That I make people cry?
After this first episode, yes. Have you ever had a conversation with Tahiry?
Watch the show!
