Vic Mensa On Dissing XXXtentacion Over Domestic Violence Accusations – I Didn’t Know His Mom Was Present, But Abuse Is Not Excusable
Roc Nation rapper Vic Mensa has never been one to shy away from controversy. Rumors are swirling that during a recent taping of the BET Hip Hop Awards, Vic dissed slain rapper XXXtentacion for his alleged domestic violence incidents. Vic recently took to Instagram, and the consensus of his statement was, “I said what I said!” This is the video statement he gave:
“Recently I did a freestyle for the BET Awards cypher addressing and condemning rappers who unabashedly abuse women, and those who stand up for them and even call them legends. I stand behind those statements. It was pre-recorded weeks ago and I had no idea a grieving mother would be in the audience to honor her lost son. I never intended to disrespect her and I offer my deepest condolences to all those who have lost at the hands of gun violence. However, I vehemently reject the trend on hip hop of championing abusers, and I will not hold my tongue about it. I don’t give a fuck about getting attention. I’m bringing awareness and holding people accountable for their actions.”
Vic Mensa’s caption for the video read:
@vicmensa Protect women. Domestic & sexual abuse are not excusable because you have talent or you are troubled. With that said I was not aware his mother would be in attendance & I offer her my deepest condolences.”
However, in a roundabout way he admitted to his own domestic violence incident during a 2016 interview with Power 105.1’s Breakfast Club. In it he admitted to rapping about a choking incident with an ex-girlfriend. See the clips below.
Does Vic Mensa’s violent past affect the credibility of his anti-abuse stance?
