The 15-year-old daughter of Michael Jackson is physically fine after being taken to a hospital early Wednesday, an attorney for Jackson’s mother said. Perry Sanders Jr. wrote in a statement to The Associated Press that Paris Jackson is getting appropriate medical attention and the family is seeking privacy.

Being a sensitive 15 year old is difficult no matter who you are. It is especially difficult when you lose the person closest to you. Paris is physically fine and is getting appropriate medical attention. Please respect her privacy and the family’s privacy.

Sanders declined further comment on Paris’ condition or the circumstances that led to her hospitalization. Fire and sheriff’s officials confirmed they transported someone from a home in Paris’ suburban Calabasas neighborhood for a possible overdose but did not release any identifying information or additional details. Reportedly, Paris called a suicide hotline and the recipient then called 9-1-1. Sources say that she left a suicide note, cut her arm with a meat cleaver, and took a large number of Motrin pills. TMZ reports that police officially classified the incident as a “suicide attempt,” but they do NOT believe her intent was to kill herself. Law enforcement sources suggest that “She wanted attention.”  One source involved in the case  added,

“It makes no sense if you really want to die to call a hotline, where the person on the other end will get an ambulance over to your house.”

Paris’ uncles Tito, Marlon and Jackie released the following statement:

Thank you for the outpouring of concern and support for Paris — she is safe and doing fine. We truly appreciate you respecting our family’s privacy at this time.
