[WATCH] Gabrielle Union Talks Being A Stepmom, 2nd Chances & Committing To Putting Family Back Together With D.Wade On Queen Latifah
Still beaming from her holiday proposal, Gabrielle Union can’t help but smile when she talks about her engagement to Miami Heat forward, Dwyane Wade. Monday (January 13th), the Being Mary Jane actress visited the Queen Latifah Show. When asked how she felt about her new title,
I’m on cloud nine right now. I mean the support that I’ve gotten, for me personally. The show, it’s been overwhelming.
She shared how she is thrilled to be a step-mother to Dwayne’s three children (two are his sons from his previous marriage to Siohvaughn Funches and he is also raising his nephew) explaining:
It’s been a journey…to boogers and flashcards and first heartbreaks and school dances…We go this amazing gift at a second chance. He just asked me to commit to trying. To put our family together. To make our family whole and the trying to do the work led to doing the work. Led to us thriving because of the work, which led to this amazing proposal where my family asked me to marry them. When life gives you a new beginning, you take it and run with it.

Both Queen Latifah and Gabrielle stayed clear of discussing his fourth newborn son, Xavier Zechariah Wade, with his longtime friend Aja Metoyer conceived during their time apart.
In more light-hearted news, over the weekend, Wade celebrated his 32nd birthday in a splendid celebrity style manner, on a giant yacht wrapped in his signature “Way of Wade” motif by shoe sponsor Li Ning. The chartered Venetian Lady and Wade himself were covered in a graphic black and white pattern, fusing man and boat in a jaw-dropping reminder that our birthday parties will never, ever reach this level.
All types of cool close to him showed up including LeBron James and his wife, Christopher Bosh, team owner Micky Arison and president Pat Riley. Gabrielle reportedly stayed next to the birthday boy most of the night, donning a haute white body dress. After the bash, he wrote:
Thanks to all my teammates and EVERY1 who came out… Moments like this I’ll never forget. 32yrs on this earth here I came (sic).
