[INTERVIEW] Reality Star Shekinah Talks Hair, Possible Spinoff and Friendship With Tiny
We were initially introduced to Shekinah Anderson as partner in crime with best friend Tameka ‘Tiny ‘Cottle for the past three seasons of T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle. The 29-year-old celebrity hairstylist and reality star is has built a solid business on her own launching hair care products and co-hosting Tiny Tonight on VH1 when she is not styling celebs like singer Tamar Braxton. Recently, we sat down with Anderson chatting with her about possibly having her own spin-off, friendship with Tiny and hair (of course!) Check out our conversation below.
theJasmineBRAND.com: Okay so tell me when you first fall in love with doing hair?
Shekinah: I was braiding hair at the age of 11 or 12, beating on my little sister. It wasn’t like I really fell in love with it. It was like something God put in my hands to help change people’s lives. I love that when I put you in my chair, you look one way and I can add beauty to your life. That is the thrill behind it.
theJasmineBRAND.com: Have you thought about having a spin off based off of your adventures with hair?
Shekinah: I’m not sure. If it’s in Gods plan and it’s a spin off then yes. Who wont want their own spin off? It’s more money, it’s more everything. I’m down with Tiny, wherever I go, whatever I do, she will always be first in line. God put her in my life for a reason. She will be getting a check with me.
theJasmineBRAND.com: Has being on the show helped or harmed your relationship more?
Shekinah: It’s been better, I’m able to make more funds. She makes sure I’m getting paid well above it.
theJasmineBRAND.com: Do you have any advice for young women wanting to start their own businesses?
Shekinah: You can do whatever you put your mind to. Put God first and he will show you the way. Treat people how you want to be treated and he will give you the key to success. I am a firm believer of this. So many told me I couldn’t, that I’m nothing, and look at me today. I am somebody, and you are somebody too. The sky is the limit.
theJasmineBRAND.com: What should every women try at least once in their lives?
Shekinah: Becoming an entrepreneur. Women are taking over this world.
theJasmineBRAND.com: If there was one thing you wish you knew when you were younger that you know now?
Shekinah: Take your time! Don’t make a bad reputation for yourself, because your name follows behind you throughout your life.
