RAVENS’ Ray Rice & Fiancée Involved in Alleged Domestic Violence Dispute + Witness Claims Punching, Spitting & Hospitalization
The details are fuzzy, but an unfortunate altercation between Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice (27) and his fiancee, Janay Palmer (26), went down this weekend.
Reportedly, the two had some type of fight early Saturday morning, at Atlantic City’s Revel Casino. According a statement from the Atlantic City Police Department, Casino security called officers to the Revel Casino after a domestic dispute was recorded by video surveillance. Reportedly, footage showed both parties involved in a physical altercation. The statement read:
The complaint summons indicates that both Rice and Palmer struck each other with their hands.
Both refused medical attention and did not report any injuries and were charged with simple assault-domestic violence and were released on a summons to appear in court. Chad Steele, the Ravens’ director of public relations released the following statement:
We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancee. We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained.
Deadspin paints a different story, reporting:
According to our tipster, though, word at the Revel early Saturday morning was that a woman—presumably the fiancée—had spit on Rice and that in retaliation, he uppercut her, knocking her completely unconscious.
A Deadspin witness also claims that he saw Ray punch and drag Janay.
A witness who saw the altercation at Revel claimed that Rice hit Palmer “like he punched a guy, knocked down and dragged her out of the elevator by his feet” before security arrived. The witness characterized the dispute as more than a “minor incident.”
Yikes. Rumor has it, Ray and his fiancee have been dating since 2008. The two have a daughter, named Lyric. Ray signed a five-year, $35 million deal with the Ravens in 2012, has also been one of the organization’s most active players in the community.
