Michael Dunn Sentenced to Life in Prison, After Shooting 17-Year-old Over Loud Music
Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty in the death. Dunn claimed he acted in self-defense because he believed Davis was reaching for a gun.
No weapon was found.
Before his sentencing, Dunn released a statement apologizing to Davis’ family:
I want the Davis family to know I truly regret what happened. I’m sorry for their loss. If I could roll back time and do things differently, I would….I did what I thought I had to do. Still, I am mortified I took a life, whether it was justified or not.
Davis’ parents, Ron Davis and Lucia MacBath, also made emotional statements at the sentencing.
