Over the weekend, A Candle In The Dark Gala took place at Atlanta’s Hyatt Regency. Each February, during Morehouse’s annual Founder’s Week celebration, the College’s alumni, friends and supporters gather for the event. The gala, which takes its name from the book that officially chronicles Morehouse’s history, serves as one of the College’s major annual fund-raising activities. Its goal is to generate revenue for the institution’s endowed scholarship fund.
The black-tie event is designed to highlight the college’s tradition of producing leaders, showcase the oratorical skills of Morehouse students and pay tribute to nationally acclaimed African Americans who are pioneers and leaders in their respective fields.
This year, the master and mistress of ceremonies was actress Melinda Williams and actor Darrin Henson during the black tie gala. Grant Hill received the Candle Award in the area of Sports & Entertainment. Celebrities in attendance also included Tamia, Hank Aaron, Jasmine Guy and others.
