Erica Mena Defends Bow Wow, Calls Out Radio Personalities DJ Envy & Charlamagne: My bullets kill!
The gloves are off and Erica Mena has come out swinging. The very vocal Love & Hip Hop NY reality star is pissed at popular NYC radio personalities DJ Envy and Charlamagne the God. Why? On Friday, Charlamagne gave Erica’s fiance, Bow Wow (real name Shad Moss), the title of ‘Donkey of the Day‘ (on Power 105’s The Breakfast Club) for his recent comments about Empire.
Here’s the quick and dirty. Bow (who now is a regular on CSI: Cyber) did an interview with Global 14. In his interview some suggest that he implies that the show Empire perpetuates stereotypes for blacks. He explains:
When we were still filming Cyber episodes, Empire‘s first episode premiered. Fans were saying, ‘Man, you should have been on the show.’ But we all don’t rap or play basketball. We can do so many things. There are young African-Americans who are intelligent enough to work at the FBI. That’s what’s so bright. Hopefully, I can help start a new wave of young Black actors who don’t want to stereotype themselves.

When I watch Empire I dont see a sterotypical show.I see a cut throat business man with a family. That story can be a white family as well.Bow Wow and her are made for one another. He played two stereotypes. He played “Byron” in aTyler Perry movie. He was a baby daddy that at one time sold drugs. And in “Lottery”he lived in the projects. He should has been the Donkey of the day.
you gotta move up somehow…is he supposed to play those roles forever? please tell me what shows we have that are uplifting and a wholesome portrayal of our black families? shows that children can watch with or without their families? Now compare that number to non black shows that can say the same.
Thank you.
I have to agree. I’m sick of seeing the stereotypes and the blatant propganda where it’s so strong you can smell it. We are not all in prison and loving up on white women. There are enough stereotypes to cast a VH1 show. Good for him and good for her, protect your man’s neck while he’s out here getting that Cyber money for his Family.
First of all the hypocrisy of his comment is outstanding did he forget that the woman he is choosing to marry is on a show where she is representing Latinos and Blacks as uncontrollable and violent . Clean your glass house Shad and tame ya bodyguard
Thank you.
I agree with his comment on empire, it most definitely perpetuates stereotypes of black peoole! But that’s why its able to be on the air….television is not going to promote positive shows with an all black cast. That went out in the eighties with the Cosby show. But black people respected themselves more then. The onset of these new ratchet shows (including the one Erica was/is on) speaks volumes about black peoole nowadays who tune into these shows faithfully. At what point do we stop the Cooney potrayal of us and say it’s not just entertainment.
I must say I agree with Bow wow… That show so is a slap in the face for us that are not about that life! Thank you Mr Moss for speaking the your truth.
Question:
How is the show sterotypical? When worst happen in the music business in which, this is what the show is about?? Erica and Chad (he’s too damn old old called Bow Wow) need to have a seat. Theybot should have first hand account of the wicked music industry. You would think? Also, he’s so on point, why would he get with a girl that like GIRLS and on a digusting show likes she’s on? Im not bashing but, HAVE A SEAT. Please. You sell your soul for a dollar – Dont be so violent. Yuck
First if all I think he is talking out both sides of his mouth. He is late on talking about blacks in intelligent roles. There are and have been blacks in the role he is now playing for years now. He is late getting in on that train. Empire is a show about how some artist have gotten to the top. The same way a white family has done for years and we watched those shows and didn’t bay an eye. Such as Dallas and other shows regarding rich white families that were corrupt remember those? So let’s stop putting down our own and uplift them for having a number one show on TV!!!
Another case of loose lips sinking ships. Bow wow please stop it. That show touches on ALL of todays issues. He gets a lil gig on CBS and thinks he’s doing something, boy please, Stop It!
For some reason I don’t feel like he is taking shots at the show. I feel like he is saying that he is already an artist and doesn’t want to stereotype himself into playing that as a character. I don’t think any of his acting roles were geared towards music. People are so sensitive towards Empire that people are just waiting for anyone to say something negative. I love the show but we can’t be so protective. The rating speaks for themselves.
I just feel sad for shad’s mother..she has to act like so excepts this Wack marriage cause she loves her son.Things mom’s do on behave of loving their sons.Every1 know this trick doing it cause bow is more established than her past affairs and she just want security and to look for another ave to her own spin off from this marriage…ho’s with loud mouths are only good for a good time then done.He will regret this later..I promise u!
