[UPDATE] Tyler Perry’s $1,000 Gift Cards To Unpaid TSA Agents At Atlanta Airport Reportedly Must Be Returned
#TylerPerry’s generous gesture toward TSA workers at Atlanta’s airport has reportedly taken an unexpected turn.
According to 11Alive, employees who received $1,000 gift cards from the filmmaker are now being asked to return them. The cards were handed out by Tyler’s team last week in an effort to support workers during the partial government shutdown. Sources say the gift cards served as a much-needed boost for staff who have gone weeks without pay. The distribution came after Tyler’s earlier attempt to hand out cash was blocked due to federal regulations.
While the gift cards were ultimately given out through proper channels, it’s reported that the airport’s federal security director later raised concerns about the gesture. Now, workers who received a card are being asked to give it back, but that may not be so simple, as many have already used the funds to cover living expenses. Meanwhile, on Friday (Mar. 27), #DonaldTrump signed an executive order directing the Department of Homeland Security to immediately pay TSA agents as the shutdown continues. Since it began last month, nearly 500 TSA officers have reportedly quit.
