Nicki Minaj Frustrated About Being Overlooked By VMA’s: It’s a double standard! + Taylor Swift Chimes In

2014 American Music Awards - Red Carpet

It’s safe to say that Nicki Minaj is a bit disappointed that her videos ‘Anaconda‘ and ‘Feeling Myself‘ featuring Beyonce, weren’t nominated for MTV’s Music Video Awards. Hours after the network announced the complete list of nominations, Minaj took to Twitter venting about what she considers is a double-standard in the industry.

Hey guys thank you for my nominations. Did Feeling Myself miss the deadline or…?If I was a different “kind” of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well.

Ellen did her own anaconda video and did the lol. Remember her doing that kick . Even mtv did a post on the choreo remember? U couldn’t go on social media w/o seeing ppl doing the cover art, choreo, outfits for Halloween…an impact like that & no VOTY nomination?

Minaj hints that when non-black women do similar videos, the results are different:

When the “other” girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination.

She adds:

If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year  Oh but trust me. I’ll be on that stage to collect my awards for vid of the year. Feeling Myself & Anaconda. I’m not always confident. Just tired. Black women influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it.

Minaj also calls out radio personality Ryan Seacrest for what she considered was a biased headline on his blog:

Ryan [Seacrest] posted a headline of Taylor saying she loves & supports me. But not me saying the same to her. Lol. Their headline says I took a “jab”?
