(EXCLUSIVE) Singer The Weeknd Close to Plea Deal in Criminal Case Accusing Him of Punching Cop
The police officer attempted to break up the brawl and when a cop pulled The Weeknd into an elevator during the fight, the singer punched him in the head.
The Weeknd was officially charged in court on February 2nd for battery on a protected person (aka a police officer).
The case is still pending in Vegas court, however, according to the court documents he is currently in negotiations to reach a plea deal in the case – in an effort to avoid serving jail time in the case – and the judge signed off on continuing a court hearing so the singer and the prosecution can continuing hashing out the details of a purposed deal.
A hearing has been set for August 27th, where the prosecution and The Weeknd are to present a plea deal to the judge.
