And in other news, last night was a big night for Oprah Winfrey in NYC where she premiered her passion project “Belief” set to air on her network, OWN. “Extra’s” AJ Calloway spoke to Oprah on the red carpet where she not only revealed why she was so passionate about the seven part docu-series, but talked politics and weighed in on the headlines regarding Lamar Odom.

Winfrey said she was “devastated” to hear that Lamar was fighting for his life after being found unconscious at a Las Vegas brothel.

It reminded me of having to deal with drugs in my own family… It is a battle that you can’t win until they decide they want to win. In my own family we lost that battle, I put my sister through rehab twice, she came out of rehab and went right back on Oxycontin and there it was, gone, dead.

Oprah said she feels for Lamar’s friends and family,

I know how frustrating it is because you want to be able to help, you want to be able to do something.

The media mogul also told AJ she has no interest in running for office.

I can tell you one thing you can be assured of in this lifetime – as long as I’m black – I will not be running for office.

Talking about another mogul, Donald Trump, she said of his presidential campaign,

Did he think he would be doing as well as he’s doing?

She also cleared up rumors she recently had dinner with him, explaining they just ran into each other. “Oh, that was not planned.” Oprah laughed off rumors that she was going to be his running mate, “We had a conference about it, no, we did not, we did not, we did not.”

As for “Belief,” which is narrated by Winfrey and explores the concepts of faith, religion and belief among diverse cultures all across the world, she said,

I’m really excited because you know at a time when I was going through challenges, building a network, trying to figure out what will the audience respond to… I literally sat down with myself and thought, what is it that I really want to say… It’s about looking at stories around the world that show what people believe and how we’re all connected.

Winfrey spent three years putting the project together, saying her faith was deepened and strengthened. “Belief” premieres October 18 on OWN.
