Regina King Returns to ‘American Crime’, Samira Wiley Joins ‘You’re the Worst’ + Malcolm-Jamal Warner Snags ‘Sneaky Pete’
Regina King is the first cast member to sign on for the upcoming third installment of John Ridley’s praised anthology series, American Crime.
The first season centers on race, class, and gender politics as it follows the lives of the participants in a trial who are forever changed during the legal process. The second season featured a new storyline and characters, with some actors from the first season. In season one, Regina played Aliyah Shadeed, Carter Nix’s sister and a convert to Islam. In the second season, she played Terri LaCroix, Kevin’s strict mother. [Deadline]
Samira Wiley, one of the stars of Orange Is the New Black, has booked a major role on FXX critical darling You’re the Worst. She will recur in season three of the comedy and play Justina, the therapist to star Aya Cash’s Gretchen. The character will be featured prominently throughout the season as Justina helps Gretchen dip her toe into the waters of mental health, both in recovering from her recent depressive episode and dealing with new challenges. Fresh off a role from FX series The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Malcolm-Jamal Warner has snagged a role on Amazon’s upcoming series Sneaky Pete. Sneaky Pete follows a con man named Marius, played by Giovanni Ribisi, who upon leaving prison assumes the identity of his former cellmate, Pete. Warner will play James Bagwell, Pete’s (Ribisi) parole officer, who is described as clean, meticulous, mercurial and volatile. He will appear in a minimum of three episodes with the option for more.
