Jennifer Lopez is snagging yet another role. HBO is developing a film about Griselda Blanco with the 47-year-old singer/actress playing the notorious drug lord, according to a new report. Lopez confirmed the news, stating:
I’ve been fascinated by the life of this corrupt and complicated woman for many years. The idea of teaming with HBO felt like the perfect fit for finally bringing Griselda’s story to life.
The film focuses on the rise and fall of Blanco, the drug lord known as “The Cocaine Godmother” who revolutionized the U.S. drug trade during the 1970s and 1980s and became the most powerful female cartel member of all time.
J.Lo will serve as an executive producer with her Nuyorican Productions banner production company.
To stay that Lopez is ‘booked’, would be an understatement. She currently stars as Detective Harlee Santos in NBC’s crime drama series Shades of Blue (also serving as an executive producer), a single mother and police detective who goes undercover for the FBI to investigate her own squad. Ryan Seacrest produces the series. It premiered on January 7, 2016, giving the network its most-watched Thursday debut in seven years it was picked up for a second season the following month. Her performance received positive reviews.
Lopez reprised her voice role as Shira in the animated film “Ice Age: Collision Course”, which was released in July 2016. She is set to star in the comedy film “Mothers I’d Like To…”, for which she will also serve as a producer through her production company.
Lopez has revealed plans to release a Christmas album followed by a second Spanish-language album. In May 2015, she announced her Las Vegas residency concert show, which commenced on January 20, 2016; the first of twenty initial dates. It takes place at Planet Hollywood’s The AXIS theater.
In collaboration with Giuseppe Zanotti, Lopez has designed a capsule collection of shoes and jewelry. Giuseppe for Jennifer Lopez will launch in January 2017.
