PJ Morton Releases “You Be Ashamed,” Fans Create #AshamedChallenge
Almost two weeks after the presidential election the country is still reeling. Arguably, President-elect Donald Trump is one of the most divisive and controversial figures in American politics to date. Immediately after the results, singer, songwriter, producer and Maroon 5 keyboardist PJ Morton took to Instagram and his piano to relay his feelings on a track titled “You Should Be Ashamed.”
He sings,
You should be a shamed/That nothing’s really changed
It’s your ignorance/That won’t give me a chance
Because of the color of my skin/You won’t listen
After all this time you wont change your mind
You should be ashamed
What more will it take/Before you realize your mistake
Shortly after the song’s release, several of Morton’s followers began creating their own versions of the song, in a nod to the Louisiana native’s heartfelt lyrics calling it the #AshamedChallenge.
