EXCLUSIVE: Iggy Azalea Settles $1.5 Mill Legal Battle w/ Producer
Iggy Azalea Settles Legal Battle
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, Iggy Azalea has reached a settlement with the music producer who helped launch her career – in the $1.5 million legal battle over unpaid commissions – with the case being dismissed.
Here’s the latest: On June 19th, docs were filed in the case explaining the rapper and music producer Jon Jon Traxx had reached a settlement in the case. Per the deal, the terms of the agreement will remain confidential and the lawsuit will be dismissed completely.
Here’s the backstory: Last year, music producer Jon Jon Traxx filed a $1.5 million dollar lawsuit against Iggy. He claimed he scored her a record deal with Def Jam, only for her to then kick him to the curb and screw him out of commission he was owed.
Iggy and the producer signed a deal back in 2009 to record together. Traxx said he spent over two years nurturing her career by setting up concerts, providing her with a stylist and set up meetings with music execs.
Traxx and Iggy agreed to terminate their deal in 2013, but he was to be paid future compensation from her career. He accused Iggy of refusing to pay up on the money owed and he filed suit demanding $1.5 million in damages.
Iggy responded to the suit, explaining Traxx did work with her in molding her as an artist, including introducing her to songwriters. However, she said he waited way too long to sue her, citing the statute of limitations. Iggy wanted him to pay her legal bills and the case to be thrown out.
Last month, Traxx accused Iggy of refusing to turn over key documents in the case, including agreements and communications between her and Traxx, communications with third parties concerning Traxx or the lawsuit, and documents reflecting advances and income paid to Iggy that he believes he is owed a cut.
He claimed Iggy’s team had been giving him the run around for eight months, coming up with multiple excuses. Traxx demanded the judge set in and force Iggy to turn over the docs.
