Michael Jackson Estate Owes Quincy Jones $9.4 million!
Cut. The. Check. A jury says Michael Jackson’s estate owes Quincy Jones $9.4 million! The legendary producer is entitled to the amount in royalties and production fees from “Billie Jean,” Thriller” and other hits that he made for the late singer.
The award is less than the $30 million Jones sought in the lawsuit filed close to four years ago. The Jackson estate had put the figure at less than $400,000.
Jones claimed in the lawsuit that Jackson’s estate and Sony Music Entertainment owed him for music used in the concert film “This Is It” and two Cirque du Soleil shows that used Jackson’s songs.
Jones, who produced “Thriller” and two other Jackson albums, said the songs were improperly re-edited in order to deprive him of the royalties and production fees.
