Jamie Foxx To Star In Black Panther Film ‘Signal Hill’
Jamie Foxx has just joined the cast of Signal Hill, the working title of the drama that will star Anthony Mackie as the late attorney Johnnie Cochran. Prior to becoming a household name in the O.J. Simpson trial, Cochran was considered a legal superhero because of his unrelenting pursuit of justice in the Signal Hill police brutality case in 1981. Foxx will play Elmer “Geronimo” Pratt in the upcoming film.
Cochran represented the former Black Panther party leader and Vietnam vet in helping to overturn a murder conviction that sent Pratt to prison for 27 years for a crime he said he didn’t commit. Cochran helped Pratt to settle a false imprisonment suit for $4.5 million in 1992.
Mackie and Jason Spire will produce with Robbie Brenner, Kevin McKeon and Jeff Kwatinetz. Hackford will also be producer.
Foxx won an Academy Award for Best Actor, BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 biographical film Ray. The same year, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the crime film Collateral. As of spring 2017, Foxx serves as host and executive producer of the new Fox game show Beat Shazam. He most recently co-starred in Baby Driver and Sleepless. He also produces the new Showtime series, White Famous, starring Jay Pharoah.
