A movie about Aaron Hernandez is in the works. The Mark Gordon Co. has picked up the movie rights to the upcoming James Patterson book All-American Murder: The Rise and Fall of Aaron Hernandez, the Superstar Whose Life Ended on Murderer’s Row. The book is scheduled to be published this month.

Mark Gordon and Matt Jackson will produce the project with Bill Robinson and Leopoldo Gout. Patterson, Alex Abramovich and Mike Harvkey, will exec produce. Gordon said in a statement,

The real, shocking events that led to Aaron Hernandez’s harrowing fall from NFL stardom gripped America’s attention and imprinted itself on today’s cultural zeitgeist. James is unmatched in his storytelling and reporting talents, and he chronicles this story with incredible insight and nuance. There is no other person with whom to collaborate to bring this timely film to life.

Hernandez was an NFL football tight end with the New England Patriots. His career came to an abrupt end after his arrest for the murder of Odin Lloyd. During the 2013 off-season, Hernandez was arrested and charged for the murder of Lloyd, a semi-professional player who was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancée. Hernandez was found guilty of first-degree murder in 2015 and sentenced to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center. While on trial for Lloyd’s murder, he was also indicted for the 2012 double homicide of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, but was acquitted after a 2017 trial. Days after being acquitted of double homicide, Hernandez was found dead in his cell, his death ruled a suicide.
