Jay-Z Subpoenaed By SEC
According to reports, Jay-Z (real name Shawn Carter) has been ordered by a federal judge to explain why he shouldn’t be required to testify in an ongoing investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The 48-year-old mogul has been issued an investigative subpoena. The nature of the probe currently is sealed. No word on why the SEC could potentially be interested in speaking to him.
According to one report, the subpoenaed may have to do with Iconix Brand Group, a public apparel company, which has been the subject of an SEC investigation. Jay-Z’s attorney Alexander Spiro, is currently representing the artist in a legal dispute with Iconix over a $204 million licensing deal.
Courts have instructed Jay-Z to appear on May 8th.
