André 3000 Releases New Music, Joins Instagram & Leaves After One Day

André 3000 Releases New Music, Joins Instagram

Three Stacks is back! André Benjamin, better known as André 3000, surprised the world when he released nearly 22 minutes of new music in memory of his parents over the weekend. On Mother’s Day, Benjamin, who is half of the Grammy-Winning duo OutKast, dropped “Me & My (To Bury Your Parents)” and “Look Ma No Hands” on his Soundcloud account.

He also created an Instagram, posting text messages between himself and his mother. As well as a picture of the two when Benjamin was younger and handwritten lyrics to one of the songs.

He disabled the account after only one day.

Benjamin’s mother died in 2013, his father the next year. After only showing up on guest spots for other artists, these are the first two tracks André 3000 has released in years. On “Me and My (To Bury My Parents)” the song is a comparison between being with both of parents. Accompanied by James Blake on piano, André sings, “Me and my mother drivin’ to the grocery sto’ / me ridin’ shotgun with my window rolled down…” on the first verse. The second verse is dedicated to his father who he used to ride to football games with.

“Look Ma No Hands” is 17-minutes of jazz, with Andre playing the clarinet and Blake on the keys again.
After years of rumors of solo projects that never came to be, and just a few guest spots, these two highly personal songs may not be exactly what fans were thinking when they heard André 3000 released new music. But give us a glimpse into his soul just in time to honor his mother on Mother’s Day.

Check out both the tracks below.
