Serena Williams Wins 1st Grand Slam Match Since Giving Birth
Serena Williams continues to prove that she is indeed a champion. Today, the 36-year-old tennis player won her first Gland Slam match following the birth of her daughter in September, beating Kristyna Pliskova.
What makes this win so impressive and special is the fact that Serena faced health complications when giving birth to daughter, which was revealed in her HBO mini-series Being Serena. On the series, she revealed that she almost died last fall, as a result of having an emergency C-section. During the procedure, she developed blood clots in her lungs, which triggered coughing that ruptured the C-section incision.
Serena dedicated her match to other moms who have gone through a similar experience giving birth and to those whose transition into being a mom has not been the easiest. She posted a photo on her Instagram page with the caption, “Catsuit anyone? For all the moms out there who had a tough recovery from pregnancy—here you go. If I can do it, so can you. Love you all!!”.

A few famous faces responded to Serena’s fashionable win. Singer and friend Ciara left encouraging words on her post writing,
Get It Mamma! Proud of you!
Tina Knowles-Lawson commented,
Go Serena!! An inspiration to us all.
Her husband Alexis Ohanian Sr. also praised his wife writing,
Supermama is back. Second time is even better. Is that Vibranium? #RG18 #catsuit.
Serena is living proof that being a mother does not stop you from accomplishing your goals. During a recent interview, she explained her plans for Grand Slams stating,
I absolutely want more Grand Slams. I’m well aware of the record books, unfortunately. It’s not a secret that I have my sights on 25.
Congratulations Serena!
