LeBron James Texted Kevin Durant About Joining The LA Lakers
Is the future NBA Hall of Famer, Lebron James trying to build a super team in Los Angeles? Well, that is exactly what NBA insiders are saying about the player some regard as the “greatest of all time.” Sports TV personality Stephen A. Smith claims that LeBron has making a few calls to other players, to get them to join him in LA. Stephen says,
As it pertains to LeBron James and LA reports are that he has been making some phone calls – and what have you.
With James having now officially opted out of the final year of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, speculation has increased with regard to what team he will sign with for the 2018-19 season. Kevin Durant, has also opted out of his contract but is expect to stay with the Golden State Warriors.
Smith reported Thursday that credible sources told him, James reached out to Durant via text message to gauge his interest in playing together in 2018 and not with the Cavaliers. James wanted to know if Durant, the 2017 and 2018 NBA Finals MVP, wanted to join him as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. Stephen says,
LeBron James reached out to Kevin Durant via text, from what I’m told, about coming to Los Angeles. I don’t know what Kevin Durant’s response to him was. That’s not the information I got. But I will tell you that I did hear is that behind the scenes Kevin Durant was like ‘Why would I do that? You know what, as far as I’m concerned LeBron James is a big time player but the way I look at it, I should be perceived as the best in the world. Why would I think about doing something like that.’
While this may be good news for the Lakers, if Smith’s report is true, it is bad news for Cleveland. The Cavs only hope of staying relevant in the 2018-2019 NBA title picture, is to keep LeBron in the fold. As we previously reported, Lebron and Steve Stoute are producing HBO documentary about hardships by unpaid athletes who generate billions for their institutions.
