Djimon Hounsou To Star In ‘Shazam’
Djimon Hounsou has landed a coveted role in DC’s “Shazam!” Hounsou will portray the character Wizard in the film adaptation of the popular comic set to hit theaters next spring. In the comics, Honsou’s character is a 3,000 years old sorcerer from Ancient Egypt who uses his powers to fight evil and has been seeking a successor to carry on his mission. He passes his power to Billy who only needs to shout his name — SHAZAM — to instantly become a superhero with an array of powers.
Hounsou is accomplishing a bit of history. He is one of the only actors to portray a major in character in both DC and Marvel films at the same time. He portrayed Korath the Punisher in 2014’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” and will star in “Captain Marvel” heading to theaters next year. He is known for his role in the films “Amistad,” “Blood Diamond” and “Gladiator.”
Angel Asher, Zachary Levi and Mark Strong have also been cast. Reportedly, filming has wrapped and “Shazam!” will be released April 5th, 2019.
