Andrew Gillum Wins Florida Primary & Could Become State’s 1st Black Governor

Florida is one step closer to making history with their first black governor. Bernie Sanders endorsed Andrew Gillium won the Florida primary on Tuesday to become the Democratic candidate for the state in November’s elections. Gillum is currently the mayor of Tallahassee, FL and beat out former congresswoman Gwen Graham after a late surge in primary votes. He will now go up against Ron DeSantis, who is backed by Donald Trump.

Andrew Gillum took to his Twitter account following his primary win to thank his supporters.

Tonight, we proved what’s possible when people come together & show up to build FL into a better state for all. I’m truly honored to represent people across the state as the Democratic nominee — and I promise to stand up for everyday Floridians and the issues that matter most.

Gillum received a ton of celebrity endorsements in the final stretch, including Instagram and Twitter posts from the likes of Rick Ross, Angela Yee and Diddy.

Let’s all get involved and make a difference #Vote @andrewgillum

If there’s any more reason to vote for him, he’s the only politician Trump has talked negatively about following the primaries. Trump recently tweeted:

Not only did Congressman Ron DeSantis easily win the Republican Primary, but his opponent in November is his biggest dream….a failed Socialist Mayor named Andrew Gillum who has allowed crime & many other problems to flourish in his city. This is not what Florida wants or needs!

Gillum responded back,

What our state and country needs is decency, hope, and leadership. If you agree, join us at . Also, @ me next time, @realDonaldTrump.

Florida, make sure you rush to the polls in November!
