Shonda Rhimes, Dwyane Wade, Jada Pinkett Smith & More To Co-Produce Broadway Play Starring Kerry Washington
Kerry Washington will be starring in the Broadway premiere of Christopher Demos-Brown’s American Son and she couldn’t be happier. The Scandal star made her Broadway debut in David Mamet’s Race in 2010. Eight years later, she returns, starring opposite Steven Pasquale. Tony winner Kenny Leon serves as director while Shonda Rhimes, Jada Pinkett Smith, Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade, Nnamdi Asomugha and Steve Stoute have all signed on to co-produce the show.
On her return to Broadway, Kerry says:
“Before I wanted to be on anybody’s television screen, I wanted to be on Broadway. Now I’m doing it in a play that I love. I can’t wait to share it.”
Kerry also explains bringing Christopher Demos-Brown’s story to life.
“Christopher Demos-Brown has written a play that dives deep into the big questions of who we are as a nation by exploring the intimate relationships within a family caught at the crossroads of love, loss, identity, and community. After reading the script I was immediately enthralled by the world of the play and the gripping circumstances that these characters are facing.”
