Academy Considering Not Having Oscar’s Host This Year
Is it possible to hold the biggest night of the year in Hollywood with no host? According to reports, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences is raking over its options for this year’s Oscar Awards after Kevin Hart stepped down from his title as host. An insider claimed that the Academy may use the following as an option for a host replacement:
“…[having] ‘a bunch of huge celebs, something ‘SNL’ style.”
In the age of social media and audience interaction, the Academy may be able to pull off an unconventional form of hosting. Earlier this month, comedian Kevin Hart announced that he was chosen to host the coveted award show, then stepped down a matter of days later. Decade-old anti-gay tweets from Kevin’s page were rehashed.
Reportedly, the Academy gave Kevin an ultimatum of apologizing or having his title removed. He released this statement:
“I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”
“I’m sorry that I hurt people.. I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again.”
After their wildly popular appearance at last year’s Oscars, social media believes comediennes Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph should host the award show.
