Janet Jackson Finally Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Janet Jackson‘s enormous fan base has proven, once again, that they are in control. After being nominated three times, iconic singer Janet has finally been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Every year, fans, industry committee members, and past inductees vote five to seven nominees into the Hall of Fame – recognizing them for their contribution to the music industry. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2019 inductees include: Janet Jackson, Radiohead, The Zombies, Roxy Music, Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks and The Cure.

But many people feel that Janet’s induction is long overdue. The Roots drummer, Questlove, is one of those people. He’s never been one to shy away from pointing out the injustices of the music industry. He used the hashtag, #JanetJacksonAppreciation , to openly criticize the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for having not yet inducted Miss Jackson-If-You’re-Nasty. His Instagram caption read:

“I’m using my platform for #JanetJacksonAppreciation day for a slightly different reason: as a voting member of the @RockHall its criminal that @JanetJackson has NOT been inducted yet. 32 years ago today #Control dropped AND CHANGED EVERYTHING: including her brother AND the mentor of her producers jimmy & terry. Whether we credit it or not: Control was the first #NewJackSwing album. Yeah it was breakbeat free, but the young brash attitude made it a first. This was NOONEs kid sister. Prince famously drove to @flytetymejam’s house and threw the record at his door zero o’clock in the morning (hey, if you ain’t got no haters you ain’t poppin) not to take away from her peers in the RRHOF that made marks in the 80s. But half of them can NOT claim they changed music (this is just one album mind you) I know this tag is for other reasons but of all the double standard injustices, her not being inducted is HIGHLY criminal.”

Questlove, Janet Jackson

However, the #JanetJacksonAppreciation hashtag was originally being used for another injustice, as Questlove pointed out. That hashtag took the internet by storm in protest of Justin Timberlake being the halftime entertainment for last year’s Super Bowl football game. Many feel singer Justin shouldn’t have been selected considering his part in the halftime show that got Janet Jackson banned from ever performing on that platform again. While performing Justin’s hit song, “Rock Ya Body,” he ripped a piece of Janet Jackson’s garment – exposing her breast. Janet later revealed on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” that she felt that Justin left her to take the blame for the incident.

Is Janet Jackson finally getting the recognition she deserves? Let us know in the comments.
