Queen Latifah To Build $14 Million In Affordable Housing In Hometown
Queen Latifah is preparing to give back to her hometown, Newark, New Jersey. When the summer breaks, 76-unit residential town homes will be coming to Springfield Avenue and South 17th Street; located outside New Jeresey’s downtown and across West and South wards.

With plans to be complete and ready for the public by December 2020 and 2021. The $14 million valued project will include 20 town homes for a family of three, along with a three-story mixed used building with an additional 16 units. 60 units of the townhouses will reportedly set at market value, while 16 units will be affordable.
Market value homes will be avaiable to the public by December 2020 and the affordable homes will be available by 2021. Market rate units will start $1,800/monthly, while affordable housing will be priced on a person’s income.

Latifah, a co-president of BlueSugar Corporation, is working with GonSosa Development on the project. Cristina Pinzon, a spokeswoman for the developers, said both companies recognize the need for affordable housing in and around Newark.
They understand how difficult it is to make ends meet for many residents and want to be part of the solution. They remain dedicated to making life better in communities like Newark.
Latifah has not a made a public statement about the new development.
