Billy Ray Cyrus Hops On Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road (Remix)” After Song Was Pulled From Billboard Charts

Country dreams come true! Self-proclaimed country-rapper – 19-year-old, Lil Nas X – has seen his fair share of ups and downs after the release of his first single, “Old Town Road.” The song has country lyrics and melody set to a bouncy trap music beat, and the country industry doesn’t appear to be feeling it! Despite being a viral hit, the song was yanked from the country Billboard charts. Many accuse Billboard of pulling the song due to it being by a Black artist in a predominantly white genre. Billboard said this in a statement to Rolling Stone Magazine:

“Upon further review, it was determined that ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X does not currently merit inclusion on Billboard’s country charts.”

Lil Nas X responded with his own statement:

“I believe whenever you’re trying something new, it’s always going to get some kind of bad reception. For example, when rap started, or when rock and roll began. But with country trap, I in no way want to take credit for that. I believe Young Thug would be one of the biggest pioneers in that.”

Back in December, Lil Nas put it out in the Twitterverse that he wanted country music legend, Billy Ray Cyrus, to hop on “Old Town Road” – and it happened!

Miley Cyrus‘ dad commented on the highly anticipated remix, adding how he, too, was once thrown off of the country charts. Billy said:

“@LilNasX Been watching everything going on with OTR. When I got thrown off the charts, Waylon Jennings said to me “Take this as a compliment” means you’re doing something great! Only Outlaws are outlawed. Welcome to the club!”
