Missy Elliott Gets Inducted Into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame

Missy Elliott is getting her flowers wile she can smell them! The legendary rapper/singer/songwriter/producer was inducted into the coveted Songwriter’s Hall of Fame last night (6/13/19). But first, she was privately honored by a few of the people closest to her. Her former Violator manager, Mona Scott-Young, gifted her with an electronic billboard right outside of her hotel room. Missy thanked her on Twitter:

“So @MonaScottYoung say go to your window and open the curtains I’m shooketh because I ain’t dressed up looking all crazy and then this what I see outside the window love you”

The Red Bull Music Academy saluted the icon with an adorable “I Can’t Stand the Rain” tribute action figure.

But Missy’s mom couldn’t let everyone show her up! She gifted her talented daughter with a diamond ring.

Missy Elliott’s friends and fellow female MCs – Queen Latifah, Lizzo, and Da Brat – honored her before she accepted her award. Lizzo commented on why her role in the tribute was especially sentimental. Her Instagram caption read:

“@lizzobeeating I got introduced by Queen Latifah to sing my favorite Missy song ever FOR Missy with Da Brat for the songwriters Hall of Fame. Thank you @missymisdemeanorelliott for all that you’ve done for black girls all over. I’m still shook.”

Missy thanked them, later, on her Twitter page.

And Missy is in good company. Last year, super-producer Jermaine Dupri was the second member of hip hop to be inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, with Jay-Z being honored the year before.

Congratulations, Missy!
