Rihanna Called Out For Using Term “Spirit Animal”, Singer Says ‘It Won’t Happen Again’
While many have dubbed Rihanna their “spirit animal” the singer and entrepreneur said she’ll no longer use the term.
Rihanna was giving a shout out to a creative director for her Savage X Fenty fashion show, Parris Goebel, and wrote,
“y’all are literally bout to witness why this woman right here is my spirit animal! God gifted genius!!”

The post came just before the fashion show premiered on Amazon Friday (Sept. 20).
Still, while others swooned over Rihanna and Goebel, one fan took notice to Rihanna using the term “spirit animal.”
They commented,
“Please stop using “spirit animal” unless you belong to one of the indigenous groups to which this concept belongs.”
Rihanna responded,
“You’re so right! It won’t happen again.”
The popular use of “spirit animal” has been said to be a form of appropriation for the Indigenous culture.
