Brandy Says She Felt Like She No Longer Had A Right To Continue Living Following Tragic Car Crash That Left Woman De@d
#Brandy is addressing it all in her newly released memoir.
According to reports, the singer opens up about the highs and lows of her decades-long career and personal life, including the debilitating survivor’s guilt she faced after a fatal car accident. On December 30, 2006, while driving on the 405 Freeway in #LosAngeles, Brandy was involved in a collision with a vehicle driven by 38-year-old Awatef Aboudihaj. Aboudihaj’s car reportedly struck another vehicle before hitting the center divider and was then hit by a third car. Reports vary on the exact cause of the accident, but tragically, Aboudihaj later died from her injuries. Brandy was found not at fault but still faced lawsuits from Aboudihaj’s family, though all were either settled out of court or dismissed.
Reflecting on the traumatic experience, Brandy reportedly writes, “Guilt gripped my throat, squeezed harder and harder until breathing became a conscious effort.” She continues, “I no longer felt I had the right to continue living my life, or even to experience fleeting glimmers of joy.” She recalls struggling with the knowledge that “the woman who had died would never again feel sunshine on her face or hold her children close.”
Brandy adds that while therapy has helped her cope, “The grief never left. But it softened — it made room. I stopped asking it to go away.”

I really appreciate Brandy for sharing her deeply personal experience. It takes immense courage to open up about such vulnerable moments. The way she expressed feeling like she no longer had the right to live is heartbreaking yet resonates with many who have faced tragedy. This reminds me of how important mental health support is, especially after traumatic events. We often don’t realize the weight we carry until it’s too heavy to bear. It would be great if more conversations could lead people toward resources that help—not just individually, but also as a community healing together, much like the supportive atmosphere at Monkey Mart where players connect while navigating their own journeys.
