Jay-Z Criticized After J. Lo & Shakira Announced As Super Bowl Halftime Performers
Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will be the performers to hit the stage for the 2020 Pepsi Super Bowl halftime show in Miami. But fans are calling out Jay-Z about it.
That’s because the move comes just weeks after the rapper signed a controversial partnership with the NFL as its Live Music Entertainment Strategist as part of the league’s social injustice initiative. Under his new role, Jay-Z has a major say in who performs for major events, like the Super Bowl.
PepsiCo’s Senior VP Adam Harter said the decision was made amid the NFL’s partnership with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation company.
“We are so excited to announce that global superstars Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will take the stage together for the very first time at the Pepsi Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show. We’ve been working closely behind-the-scenes with our long-standing partners at the NFL, and now alongside Roc Nation to bring these mega superstars together. It is a testament to our partnership and commitment to push the envelope of what is possible.”
And given the announcement that J. Lo and the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer are the main performers, some fans have taken to social media to express they’re not happy about it.
