Deon Cole Responds To Backlash After Wearing Velvet Bell Bottoms To Awards Show: It’s Sad These Messages Come From My Own Kind
“Grown-Ish” star Deon Cole is known for bringing the funny on television, but his recent social media interactions have been anything but comedic. Deon Cole rocked a navy blue, velvet, bell-bottomed suit on the NAACP Image Awards red carpet this past weekend, and apparently his fashion moment wasn’t received well. He took to Twitter to share a DM he received from a troll. The message read:
“Gay a** n*gga”
Yikes! Deon Cole tweeted:
“Tomorrow Im going to do a post talking about this and the many many more derogatory messages and threats I’ve received about that gucci velvet bell bottom pants suit that I wore. It’s sad that these messages come from my own kind but about this tomorrow. #justakidfromthechi”

As promised, Cole took to Instagram with a lengthy video.
In a comment, he clarified that he doesn’t want people to be bullied for expressing themselves.
“We as black people got to stop saying and not giving a f*ck!!! That’s all I hear, “n**** don’t give a f*ck! Be clear, i don’t care what people say about me! But when you hate a person for who they are or what they wear I got a problem with that! there’s kids that don’t think like us pimp who give lot’s of f*cks and I’m speaking for them. So I’m sorry my N*gga for giving a f*ck cuz apparently you and a lot of other people don’t. Start giving a f*ck.”

A few of his celebrity friends – including Don Lemon, Tyson Beckford, Adele Givens, and Snoop Dogg – showed him support in the comments section.
