Spike Lee Recalls Favorite “Malcom X” Scene, Says Denzel Washington Not Receiving An Oscar Was ‘Highway Robbery’

The corona pandemic has award winning director Spike Lee reminiscing about some of his favorite scenes from his impactful film catalog.  The Denzel Washington staring “Malcom X” was the subject of his most recent post.

Posting the video, he writes:

“Tonight For You, I Present Another One Of My Favorite Scenes I’ve Directed. Dis Shit Is PERSONAL. From MALCOLM X-Starrin’ My Brother- DA GREAT,DENZEL WASHINGTON With The Legendary SAM COOKE Sangin’ A CHANGE IS GONNA COME.” 

The scene in question shows Malcom X driving to what would be the location of his final speech, with his family and entourage follows in different cars. Spike continued the post by shouting out his collaborators:

 I Might Add This Is One Of My Best Uses Of DA DOUBLE DOLLY SHOT. Shout Out To My Man-Francis Ford Coppola. I Used The Final Montage Scene From Godfather 2 For Inspiration For The Editing Of This Montage (Edited By My Long Time Editor-Barry “DA CUT MASTER” Brown.”

Spike closed his post saying how emotional the scene was and shouting out Denzel Washington’s Oscar nominated performance:

“No Matter When Or What I Always Get Teary Eyed Watching This Scene. Be Safe. Peace And Love. Dat’s Da “Denzel”, Truth,Ruth. YA-DIG? SHO-NUFF.” 

Spike Lee then took to the comment section to answer a few questions and reply to some comments about awards he and Denzel should of won, for which he replied “Highway Robbery” along with “thumbs up”, “praying hands” or “heart” emojis. See the exchange below.
