Selena Gomez Diagnosed With Bipolar Disorder

Selena Gomez has revealed the she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The 27-year-old singer and actress shared the news while speaking with friend Miley Cyrus. She explained,

“I discussed that after years of going through a lot of different things, I realized that I was bipolar. And so when I go to know more information, it actually helps me. It doesn’t scare me once I know it. And I think people get scared of that, right? They’re like ‘oh.’ And I’ve seen it. I’ve seen some of it even in my own family where I’m like what’s going on. It’s just I’m from Texas, it’s not known to talk about your mental health or you’ve got to seem cool and then I see the anger built up in children and teenagers or whatever, young adults because they are wanting that so badly.”

She continues

“And so I just feel like when I finally said what I was going to say, I wanted to know everything about it and it took the fear away. It was like when my mom—well, when I was younger, I was scared of thunderstorms and my mom bought me all these different books on thunderstorms so she’s like, the more that you educate yourself on this, the more you’re not going to be afraid. And it completely worked. So that’s kind of something that helps me big time.”

Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber

Earlier this year, she spoke about some of the alleged emotional abuse that she experienced while dating Justin Bieber.

While speaking on “Lose You To Love Me”, her first No. 1 single from her latest album Rare, Selena Gomez states:

“I’m very proud of it. It has a different meaning to me now from when I wrote it. I felt I didn’t get a respectful closure, and I had accepted that, but I know I needed some way to just say a few things that I wish I had said. It’s not a hateful song; it’s a song that is saying — I had something beautiful and I would never deny that it wasn’t that. It was very difficult and I’m happy it’s over. And I felt like this was a great way to just say, you know, it’s done, and I understand that, and I respect that, and now here I am stepping into a whole other chapter.”

In 2018, she was allegedly admitted into a psychiatric facility, after suffering an emotional breakdown.

Kudos to Selena Gomez for opening up about her diagnosis!
