Big Sean Breaks His Silence On The Passing Of Ex-Fiancee Naya Rivera: “I Can’t Believe This Is Real”

Rapper Big Sean has broken his silence following the untimely passing of his ex-fiancee actress and singer Naya Rivera. On July 8, the 33-year-old performer went missing while boating with her 4-year-old son, Josey Dorsey, on Lake Piru, which sits over 50 miles northwest of the city of Los Angeles. The young boy was found alone in the boat and sadly, Naya Rivera’s body was not found until days later on July 13 after a major search and rescue effort was put forth by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

Big Sean took to his official Instagram Friday night (July 17) to pay tribute to his ex with a post of two photos: a black-and-white solo photo of a slightly-grinning Naya Rivera and one color photo of her sweetly cradling her young son, Josey Dorsey, in her arms. He captioned the dual-slide post with an emotional message:

Rest In Peace Naya, God Bless your Soul! Thank you for blessing us all with your talent and presence. you are a hero! Not just because of how you saved your son, also because of the barriers you knocked down for so many people to make them feel confident in themselves and to stand tall and be proud when they couldn’t achieve that on their own. I appreciate and cherish everything that ever happened between us for making me wiser and a better person. I’m still grieving and in shock, I can’t believe this is real. I’m praying for you and your family and I know your watching over them and protecting them. Rest In Peace Naya

The 32-year-old rapper got engaged to “Glee” star Naya Rivera not long after they began dating in 2013 after meeting on Twitter. He was even featured on Naya‘s debut and only song she ever released, September 2013’s “Sorry.” However, six months after announcing their engagement, the two went their separate ways.

Big Sean has also received some heat recently for his 2014 song, “IDFWU,” which was released shortly after the couple’s breakup. Not long after its release, many speculated that the song was specifically about Naya, but Big Sean clarified that there was only one portion of the song that referred to her:

I wrote the last verse and [the line] ‘and everyday I wake up celebrating sh*t, why? ‘Cause I just dodged a bullet from a crazy b*tch.
