Teyana Taylor Slammed By Rapper Mykki Blanco For Not Paying Her For A 2018 Feature, Teyana Reacts: This ALL Falls On Kanye!

Transgender rap artist Mykki Blanco has more than a few words for Teyana Taylor. She took to social media over the weekend to accuse Teyana Taylor of failing to pay for Mykki Blanco for her 2018 feature in Teyana Taylor‘s “WTP.” Both artists have asked that the song not be streamed but not before the two got into an all-out showdown on Twitter. Mykki Blanco initially said in a lengthy Instagram post that she had not been paid for her feature in the song and it took assistance from her attorney to receive a songwriting credit:
Can you believe it’s been two years and Universal Music has still not paid me for my feature fee for this song? Can you believe it took 1 year with the help of my lawyer to get credited on the song, because it did. I wrote on and co-produced this track as well as writing the verse that Kanye literally raps on “Hurry.” Is that a big accomplishment to write for other artists NO, this isn’t about clout.
She goes on to say that she felt she had been disrespected by Teyana Taylor‘s team and decided to go public to let people know how she’s been treated by all parties involved:
The reason I have gone public with this is not to bad mouth @teyanataylor, but her ENTIRE team and Universal have treated me WITH SO MUCH DISRESPECT, THEY HAVE TREATED ME BAD YALL…REALLY BAD, I HATE DOING THIS ON SOCIAL MEDIA BUT I HAVE HAD IT!!!!!! It’s a pandemic, like so many musicians I’m completely out of work. I’m doing writing jobs here and there but almost all of my income like so many others stems from touring. I’ve had it, I didn’t want to go public but the way I have been treated is really, really, really bad. These people have been flippant, rude, they have lied, delayed, found me “harmless” and “inconsequential.”
The “Wake Up Love” singer responded to Mykki Blanco‘s claims and indicated that the blame is really on music producer, rapper, and fashion designer Kanye West since she is signed to his label, G.O.O.D. Music and because he was one of the executive producers on her “K.T.S.E.” album. She mentions in her response that Kanye West had actually handpicked the rapper to be featured on the song and said she’d actually replaced Mykki with “Pose” actor and HBO’s “Legendary” host Dashaun Wesley. She also referred to Mykki as being “wack” for addressing the situation in the manner she was doing:
ALL of it falls on Kanye because he put Mykki on the song. I had no clue he was on the song until they played it for me the day before my album release party. Tho I appreciate & love what Mykki contributed to the song, I originally replaced Mykki with MY personal choice Dayshawn Wesley…… Now, tho Mykki was not my personal pick I STILL personally reached out about including him in my video, flew him in FROM LONDON, provided glam, funds & everything that was asked of me OUT OF MY POCKET WHEN NOBODY ELSE CARED TO. I did my part. His issue should be with the person/people who actually put and/or asked him to be on the record! Everybody who knows, know that I’ve had a BIG ISSUE WITH HOW KTSE WAS HANDLED AS A WHOLE! KTSE was more of a Kanye album than ain’t was a Teyana Taylor album LOL which was my issue in the first place!!!!!!
Mykki u wack for how u going out, cause YOU KNOW I have nothing to do with this & YOU KNOW I PERSONALLY made sure you was properly taken care of on my end.
A fan quickly jumped in to clarify that Mykki is transgender and informed her of the proper pronouns to use when referring to her. Teyana Taylor‘s reply to the fan indicated she was unaware of Mykki‘s transition from male to female:
Mykki responded to Teyana‘s detailed statement defending herself with a short tweet, seemingly to condemn the multi-talented performer for using the word “wack” to describe her:
Teyana quickly clarified that Free is actually part of Kanye West‘s team and reiterated her initial claim that the fault lies with G.O.O.D. Music, not her. The pregnant performer also indicated in her response that her momager Nikki Taylor had already done her due diligence to resolve the issue:
Sorry to burst ya bubble but FREE is actually KANYE’S management/team. FREE is on the good music side of things. U keep tryna blame my mom/manager for something she had nothing to do with but when she was made aware, she instantly worked to get the situation rectified for YOU.
Mykki also accused Teyana of having a phobia concerning her HIV status and minimizing her screen time in the video for “WTP:”
.@TEYANATAYLOR We not EVEN gonna get into the fact that you were very uncomfortable when you found out I had HIV,
You tried your hardest to edit me out the music video and then gonna put Lena Waithe and a bunch more “palatable” Black Querr people in the s**t
Teyana replied and said she had no prior knowledge of Mykki‘s HIV status until she tweeted about it:
WHEW CHILLLEEEEE the delusion We are not going to get into that because it’s simply a lie. I knew nothing of ya status prior to today. Baby please take a nap. I see what’s going on here. Leave me alone, I’m done with this.
The Twitter battle kicked up a notch when the managers for both artists, David Swartz and Teyana‘s mother, Nikki Taylor, jumped into the fray to respond to the claims. There may be even more drama brewing as they both ominously indicated that they will “see” one another on Monday (July 20):
Wow. I tried to be civil in communicating the narrative and showing sympathy to an artist like Teyana who clearly had zero control over an album which was released in her name, and y’all wanna go down this route…hmm enjoy the weekend. See ya Monday.
You @TEYANATAYLOR and your mom @nikkitaylor1 clearly have no idea what the role of a manager is nor have any grasp of the responsibility or accountability that an artist, especially one who yields such a platform like you, bears. Literally, disgraceful.
Nikki Taylor responded with a clap back of her own, saying that David Swartz had only sent a single email to her regarding the issue at hand:
David really? You sent ME 1 email from June 2019 which I was EXTREMELY CLEAR on the fact that I never saw that email! You yourself stated that you have been speaking to other parties for that 2 years! Let’s really stop this before it goes too far!
David Swartz hits back at Nikki saying that he’s aware that management “isn’t easy.”
Yeah I know, being a manager isn’t easy, it takes up a lot of time and energy. You’re actually responsible & obligated to read your emails & you’re accountable for communication sent to you that relates to the clients you’ve made a commitment to represent.
Nikki simply responds to David asking him to stop his comments:
David, please stop, just stop. But I will leave this alone right here, and as stated…YES I will see you Monday
What do you think about Mykki Blanco’s claims against Teyana Taylor and her team? Sound off in the comments!
