Tina Lawson Says Beyonce’s “The Gift” Album Was Overshadowed, Underrated & Didn’t Have Enough Promo

Tina Lawson is voicing her opinion about the lack of marketing and attention that her daughter’s Beyoncé’s The Gift album received.

The Lion King: The Gift was a soundtrack album curated by Beyoncé for the 2019 photorealistic animated remake of The Lion King and for Black Is King (2020).

It was released on July 19, 2019, was also produced by Beyoncé and included appearances from Jay-Z, Blue Ivy Carter, Childish Gambino, Pharrell Williams, Kendrick Lamar, Tierra Whack, 070 Shake, and Jessie Reyez, as well as African artists such as Wizkid, Shatta Wale, Burna Boy, Mr Eazi, Tiwa Savage, Tekno, Yemi Alade, Busiswa and Salatiel, among others.

Over the weekend, (August 2nd), the 66-year-old mother of Beyonce and Solange Knowles posted a screenshot of a tweet that read:

Beyoncé’s #TheGift [Deluxe Edition] album rises to #3 on iTunes. Let’s get it to #1!

Tina Lawson started her caption, expressing disappointment at the fact that friends have come to her and had no knowledge of this album,  despite the release being over a year ago on July 19. She starts:

It is very interesting I have had a lot of friends to ask me is that all music done for the movie? Nooooo!!!! The Album is called “The Gift” The album has been out for a year !!! I have been in love with this album from the first time I heard it !!!

She also continued, noting that she feels the album was overshadowed by The Lion King movie, which Beyoncé voiced the character of Nala.

I felt it was so genius but was totally underrated!! When it came out I felt like there was hardly any marketing or promotion done because it came out with the movie! It was overshadowed by The Lion King Movie!

Tina Lawson also says,

It made me so sad because the songs are so beautiful !!! And Spirit and Bigger were two of the biggest, best and most epic songs , ever ! The beats on the whole album are so infectious that it makes you move involuntarily whether you want to or not. “The Keys to the Kingdom “ is amazing and one of my favorite . My Power should be an Anthem!!! Saying “you can’t take my Power” It has become my fight song!!!

Tina closes out her statement, naming songs that make her emotional while also highlighting all the hard work and people who made this project possible, like African artist Wizkid and Burna Boy, and others:

The Otherside makes me cry every time it always makes me think of all of the people I will see on the other side, my mom, my Dad, my brothers, sister and my Johnny! , and her range on it is unbelievable!!! She goes as low in her register as a dude!!! Yes everyone thinks that is a man but it is her!!! She collaborated with African Producers , writers , singers, Artist this record is a masterpiece!!! !!! It is a beautiful “GIFT “to the world !! Please stream this album , download it !!! Listen to the words ! It celebrates Blackness and the human spirit and resilience that lives in all of us all as People no matter what color we are !!!! That’s my two cents.
