‘Fresh Prince’ Star Daphne Maxwell Reid On Why She Refused To Shake Donald Trump’s Hand During His Cameo On The Show: I Didn’t Like Him

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star Daphne Reid hasn’t been a fan of Donald Trump for decades.

Daphne Reid, who played the second Aunt Viv on the classic show, said she wasn’t impressed when he had a cameo in season 4 as he and his then wife Marla Maples were in talks of purchasing the Banks’ mansion.

In the scene, Daphne Reid didn’t shake his hand, while James Avery (Uncle Phil) Karyn Parsons (Hilary Banks), and Will Smith did

Daphne Reid explained her decision while on the You Might Know Her From podcast. She said:

“I didn’t like him. I had news from New York. I knew who he was.”

There has been plenty of conversation about The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as the cast celebrated its 30th anniversary for a reunion special on HBO Max earlier this week. Many spoke about the appearance of Janet Hubert, who played Aunt Viv before Daphne Reid joined the series. After her exit, Janet Hubert and Will Smith were at odds for years until they buried their drama on the reunion.

She told him:

“Words can kill. I lost everything. Reputation, everything, everything. I understand you were able to move forward, but you know those words, calling a Black woman difficult in Hollywood is the kiss of death. It’s the kiss of death. It’s hard enough being a dark-skinned black woman in this business.”
