Taraji P. Henson Says She’s ‘Much Better’ After Ending Engagement
Taraji P. Henson is living her best life!
The actress is set to host the American Music Awards Sunday (Nov. 22) and is still celebrating turning 50 after she reached the milestone on Sept. 11.
During all of her success and life changes, she also called off her engagement to NFL player Kelvin Hayden. She confirmed the split last month and said:
My…my happiness is not his responsibility and his happiness is not mine. We have to first learn how to make ourselves happy to make each other happy, and so when one person is taking on the weight of the entire relationship it’s never going to work. Somebody, you have to show up, and yes you want to be understanding, but you can’t lose yourself in that understanding. You, you have to still stand up for yourself and be there for yourself, but it’s hard to do if the other person isn’t doing that part either.”

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight recently, she gave an update on how she’s doing after the breakup.
“I am much better, let’s put it that way.”

Taraji P. Henson and Kelvin Hayden got engaged in 2018. They had been together for two years.
She also opened up about turning 50 and said:
“I felt myself slipping and so I was like, ‘You know what I am not going to do is let 50 happen to me. I am going to get control of this mentally and not be like, ‘You are getting old, don’t nobody care, you ain’t working,’ Well, duh, no one is working, it is COVID. So I felt that coming.”
She said she doesn’t experience those “lows” anymore and continued:
“So anybody out there, that might be going through this darkness, literally, working out, it really works.”
