He rolled out his plans for 2021 while speaking to The All-New Capital Weekender Friday, Feb. 19th. He said this year he’s,
“Definitely making more music, people that love my film and stuff, listen, I’m going to be making Luther: The Movie.”
He continued,
“I’m super excited and I hope the fans are sort of excited for that. It’s been a long time coming for a movie, for people that have loved the show. We’ve been making the show for 10 years, so we’re making film.”
Luther ran for five seasons from 2010-2019. Idris Elba portrayed Detective Chief Inspector John Luther.

Idris Elba first confirmed a Luther movie in July 2020.
“I’ve maintained that I’d like to see [Luther] come to a film. That’s what I think we’re headed towards, is a film. I’m looking forward to making that happen.”
He later confirmed that the movie is in fact in the works, saying:
“It is happening!”
Idris Elba also added that the series going to film will give his character John Luther a chance to evolve after playing him for nearly a decade.
“With a film, the sky is the limit. Obviously, you can be a little bit more bold in the storylines, maybe international, a little bit sort of up the scale. But John Luther is always going to be John Luther.”
