Justin Bieber Recalls Past Drug Addiction, Says Bodyguards Often Checked His Pulse To See If He Was Still Alive

Justin Bieber is opening up about just how bad his drug addiction was.

During an interview with GQ, the singer first said,

“I have a wife who I adore, who I feel comforted by. I feel safe. I feel like my relationship with God is wonderful. And I have this outpouring of love that I want to be able to share with people, you know?”
He then spoke on his previous struggle with substance abuse and said,
“It was like I had all this success and it was still like: I’m still sad, and I’m still in pain. And I still have these unresolved issues. And I thought all the success was going to make everything good. And so for me, the drugs were a numbing agent to just continue to get through.”
He said things got to the point where his bodyguards would sneak into his room and check his post to make sure he was still alive.
Justin Bieber has been candid about his previous issues lately.

He revealed in his YouTube documentary Justin Bieber: Next Chapter,

“There was times where I was really, really suicidal. Like, man is this pain ever going to away? It was so consistent, the pain was so consistent.”

Justin Bieber continued and said in the project that was released Friday (Oct. 30th):

“I was just suffering, right? So, I’m just like, man. I would rather not feel this than feel this.”

He credited his faith as a factor that helped him heal. He said while watching his video for “Lonely”:

“I had no idea that this life would take me by storm. I had no idea that I would just get sucked up by all of this stuff.”

He also had a message for his fans:

“I just would encourage people, ‘Hey, if you’re feeling lonely, talk about it. Say it out loud.’ There’s freedom in that. I could have avoided a lot of pain.”

He added:

“I want to be the type of person and leader who can tell people, ‘You don’t have to put on a front. You don’t have to act a certain way. Who you are is enough…’I feel so just at peace for the first time in my life.”
