Nicki Minaj Reunites W/ Drake, He Tells Her: Nobody Does This Better Than You + Nicki Releases New Music

Nicki Minaj is back in the spotlight and she’s making up for lost time.

Earlier this week, fans began speculating that the rapper was releasing new music today (May 14th) after she shared a cryptic post Monday (May 10th).

She then confirmed Thursday (May 13th) that she would be gracing her Instagram Live.

During her IG Live, Nicki Minaj first started by announcing that this year marks the 12th anniversary of her Beam Me Up Scotty mixtape. She went on to thank her fans for the years of love and support. She stated that she has decided to finally make the aforementioned mixtape available on all streaming services, allowing fans to access hits like “Itty Bitty Piggy” from additional platforms.

Then, Nicki Minaj proceeded to elaborate on her thought process behind the re-release, stating:

“I knew if I just re-released the mixtape without putting out anything new, I knew y’all would like cuss me the f*** out. So what I did was I did a couple new joints for the mixtape.”

She continued,

“We wanted to add a couple other things to get you guys excited about the re-release of the mixtapes, and what I did was, I added a couple of joints. I did a remix to ‘Crocodile Teeth,’ and then I did a record called ‘Fractions’… And I did another song.”

Nicki then segued to discussing her upcoming album and documentary, claiming:

“Of course I’m working on the album for you guys… The album’s coming soon, [and] the documentary is as well. I’m really excited for you guys to see the documentary–I know you guys are gonna love it.”

Nicki Minaj also gave an update on how her son, nicknamed Papa Bear, is doing. She stated:

“Papa Bear’s doing great. I love Papa Bear… two days ago he said ‘Mama,’ it was so funny. He said ‘Mama,’ and I happened to be recording him… I might put that out, ’cause it’s so cute–but then on the other hand, [he’s] my baby, and I don’t know yet. I’m so overprotective.”

The rapper then addressed the reasons behind her “hiatus,” telling fans:

“This little hiatus was really fun because I was–you know–in mommy mode, but also I went through like this crazy little writer’s black for a second.”

Shortly thereafter, she informed viewers that she reached out to Drake during this time to help spark her inspiration, and he sent her a new track called “Seeing Green” to jump on. Then, in an exciting twist of events, Nicki actually went Live with Drake!

Nicki began the exchange by asking Drake why he thought she would be good for the track, and he replied:

“It had just been a really long time since that link up… it didn’t feel right with you not being on it. That’s really the best way I could put it.”

Drake then proceeded to offer a sweet sentiment to Nicki Minaj, telling her:

“It’s just your world. Nobody does this s**t better than you… We really miss you. Like, we really miss your presence, and just like we miss the bars, we miss the excitement that you bring… You know what time it is, and you know I’m coming over this weekend too so we can get to work.”

In response, Nicki reflected on how Drake came through for her when she needed it, saying:

“[Drake] single-handedly got me out of my writer’s block, and I’m never gonna forget it and Imma shout it to the world, from the mountain tops, ’cause that’s the real s**t… he sent me something and it made me feel so competitive again.”

She continued:

“Whenever I hear Drake and Wayne rap, it’s always gonna just inspire something in me. But outside of Drake’s rap, it’s his pep talks! He’ll send one text that’ll make me really reevaluate everything. He’s a f****** genius – as a musical artist, but also as a human.”

Before the pair part ways on Live, Drake reaffirmed his love for Nicki Minaj before confirming that they will soon meet up to continue working on the album.
