Now, Sidney Starr is speaking with the co-hosts of The Real to clear things up. Co-host Loni Love started the conversation and said,
“Initially on your online post you referred to Darius as your boo thang which for some implied that you two were dating but you later denied the rumors. Why did you do that?”
In response, Sidney Starr said,
“I don’t think neither Darius or I knew how hard this was gonna hit and I mean as you can see society was not ready for this at all.”
Co-host, Jeannie Mai, interrupts with,
“This meaning what? I wanna know about you and Darius. Were you guys dating? Boo thang usually means there’s a relationship. Were you guys more than friends?”
Sidney clarifies,
“We are friends. He’s a very good friend of mine that’s all Imma say. He is fun to hang out with as you can see I’m a fun girl to hang out with.. anybody would want to be Sidney Starr’s friend.”
Loni Love then brings up old rumors that the reality star dated rapper, Chingy. That false speculation is said to have tarnished the rapper’s career in the early 2000s.
Loni Love explains,
“Getting very serious here, we have issues with the transgender community and with dating and people and the perceptions that people have, so saying that you’re dating someone and that person doesn’t date you.. that gets in murky water so can you see how it could be dangerous? ‘Cause the same thing happened with you and Chingy, you remember back in the day? So we want to be totally clear especially in our communities, we’re trying to make sure that we are allies.”
After agreeing with what Loni said Sidney responds,
“Imma say this, I am all about positivity. Miss Starr is coming with nothing but love and positivity and I want everyone to know that just because I have a past with something like that.. it does not mean that I’m that same type of person just now.”
She continues,
“Me and Darius came together to cause a positive movement and a moment for the world to break barriers. It’s okay for a straight heterosexual male to be friends with a beautiful known trans woman, or a gay guy, or someone that is not really normalized you know what I mean? All we wanted to do was just kinda show you all like ‘look hey this is okay’.”
